The threat to the very existence of a rugby league club in St Albans has been solved - thanks to their cross-code friends.
St Albans Centurions have been without a home for approaching two years since St Albans District Council closed their Toulmin Drive facility due to safety concerns around RAAC concrete.
That had a massive impact on the club with greatly reduced player numbers and limited home games being played.
However, they are set for a blossoming 2025, and maybe more, after reaching an agreement with St Albans Rugby Union Club to share their Boggymead ground in Smallford.
Centurions' ultimate objective is to move back to Toulmin Drive, their home for well over a decade, once the replacement facility commissioned by St Albans DC is built.
No firm timelines are currently available on that though, meaning the assist from St Albans RFC is timely and hugely appreciated.
Centurions junior coach Rob Collins said: "We are really pleased to be able to link up with St Albans Rugby Club and give ourselves a guaranteed base for 2025, with great facilities and hosts that are really keen to support our efforts.
"They have been very accommodating in the discussions and were very keen first and foremost to help out another sporting club from the city.
"The last couple of years have been a bit of a disaster and we are looking to build back up the club's stature in the community."
St Albans RFC chairman Mark Elliott added: "When Gary contacted us and explained their situation at Toulmin Drive we were only too pleased to be able to help.
"To be able to offer our facilities to the Centurions' junior and ladies sections extends our support to the community and we look forward to welcoming them in 2025."
The Cents have ambitious plans for the new season too.
They are looking to run three junior teams in the U16, U14 and U12 age groups, two more than they did in 2024.
They also plan to start a women's section.
Player recruitment is essential to ensure these goals are achieved and the club would be interested to hear from any players who might be interested in giving rugby league a go.
