Harpenden Town bowed out of the Herts Women's Senior Cup but not before giving Premier Division Stevenage a run for their money.

The Eastern Region Division One North side lost 2-1 as Boro went on to seal a semi-final spot with Watford Res.

Harpenden handed a first-team debut to U23 keeper Mikayla Carr who went on to be named player of the match.

However, the first bit of action was at the other end and saw Harps take the lead on 11 minutes.

A ball out from the keeper was played up the field by both Erin Shacklock and Kacee Warren to Belle Shannon.

She then hit a delightful pass to send Sophia Amanor in and she beat Lucy Webster for pace before sliding it past Lauren Reeves in the Boro goal.

Stevenage tried to hit back but Carr denied Gemma Croucher while Matilda Thomas-O'Keefe and Amy Makewell sent shots narrowly wide.

It seemed as if Harpenden would reach the break in front but they were stopped from doing that when Croucher fired a free-kick from just outside the box over the head of Carr and in.

Shannon sent a well struck free-kick just wide of the upright early in the second half but it took just six minutes for Stevenage to get in front, Thomas-O'Keefe crossing for Amy Gooderham to supply the simple finish.

Harpenden tried to rescue the game but after shots from Jaime Curtain and Natalie Cloy were blocked, Rebecca McShane fizzed an effort past the post.

Fresh legs were brought on to try and rescue something but the Stevenage defence did excellently to keep them at arm's length and move into the last four.

It was a good day for St Albans Primary Schools as they played four games and won the lot.

Both U11 sides won in the Shires Cup, the Yellows hosting and beating rivals Dacorum 3-2.

Nick Foster scored from 25 yards before Ethan Rance added a penalty and Vincent Worsley a free-kick.

The Blues were away to Chiltern & South Bucks B and returned with a 1-0 win, the goal coming late on when Zayne Chapman got on the end of a corner by Tristan Phillips to head home.

Player of the match was Hector Parsons.

The girls had a 9-1 triumph away to Slough in the District Cup.

Ella Huckle got three and Summer Chau two, with the others from Isla Compton, Alice Timmons-Kent, Eva Dunn and Violet.

The U10s completed a great day with a 3-2 win away to Merton.

Jacob Burtt (two) and Alby Jolley got the goals while Baxter Burns was the player of the match.

However, Colney Heath had anything but a good day as they lost 3-0 to Division One Letchworth Eagles in the SSML Challenge Trophy.

Letchworth opened the scoring after five minutes when a free kick from Rory Gilliam was headed home by Austin Christie and they made it 2-0 at half-time with Max Smith headed home, again from a Gilliam free-kick.

Billy Owen had two chances for the Magpies but sent one wide and then missed his kick.

And another free-kick, this time from Smith, allowed Olly Humphreys to head home a third for the Eagles.
