After claiming their first win of the National League South season at the 11th time of asking, St Albans City slipped back into their error-ridden ways with defeat at home to Welling United.
The 1-0 win was sealed in the first half, Anointed Chukwu scoring after 15 minutes for the Wings who are now one place outside of the bottom four, seven points clear of second-bottom Saints.
City, who have now only won once in the last 12 home league games, had plenty of possession and chances too, all of which adds to annoyance and frustration of manager David Noble.
He said: "If you come to a game like that and you have [a lot of] points on the board and you have all the play and all the chances, and then concede a really sloppy goal, you think 'OK, it wasn't our day'.
"But this just fits into the pattern of 95, 99 per cent of all our other games. It's not unlucky.
"There was a lack of quality. For all of the game we had, bar two or three powder puff shots that the keeper saves, we haven't made him work.
"We had two or three sort of open goals that we've missed but I'd describe it like the other performances - a distinct lack of quality in one box and [poor] decision making, when to shoot or when to pass, and not being ruthless defensively.
"We had three or four opportunities to clear the ball, he's offside by the way, the first man and it seems like an easy decision to make, but we were in possession before that.
"We lose it in midfield and we have to take our medicine, matey's offside, but we have two or three opportunities to clear and we don't.
"Add it to the collection.
"We had a lot more penetration than other weeks. We had some really good opportunities in the first half.
"Slightly less pace on JJ's ball and that's a golden opportunity for Josh Castiglione, Ken's ball across before that.
"We started quite well. We had a little bit of a lull for 10 minutes after conceding but if you've watched this game, you're thinking how have we not scored.
"But then it becomes why have we not scored.
"Ken Charles has an open goal, gets the timing of his header wrong. I think he jumped a little bit too early, he might have been nudged but that's one of those.
"But we were camped in their half and the quality is severely lacking."
One positive was the debut off the bench of former Hitchin Town man Matt Lench who has joined from Slough Town.
Noble said: "He makes the right decisions and that separates the better footballers from the not-so good ones.
"Whether that is with the ball or without, whether that is to dribble or pass or stay on it.
"Invariably every decision he made was correct. He got caught on it once but other than that he came on and made five or six passes that opened up their defence.
"It was a really good debut."
One player has departed though, Sam Deadfield heading to Basingstoke Town.
"[With Sam, it was] more sort of the family stuff, the things away from football.
"We like Sam, he's a good player but some things are a little bit more important and you have to take care of number one."
