Bowls clubs had finals day in both county and district competitions.

St Albans Bowling Club had reached the last four of the County League but travelled to neutral venue Harpenden without some key players.

Welwyn Garden City proved too strong on the day, eventually going on to win the final against Potters Bar, while Saints were left for a play-off for third, one they lost by one shot to Oak Hill having reeled their opponents in over the last few ends.

The men played a District League fixture at home to Batchwood and won on all three rinks and 50-37 overall.

The three winning skips were Andy Kay, Mike Pitkin and John Harvey.

Harpenden ladies are finishing their season with a flourish after reaching the final of two St Albans Ladies Bowls Association events.

Firstly, Viv Dale and Linda Brooks won in the district pairs, beating June Worman and Sue Knight from Welwyn Garden City 17-8.

And to add to the good news, Carol Glanfield is into the final of the champion of champions event.

She had qualified by winning the club's singles last year and then overcame Martine Underwood from Hatfield to go through to the showdown.

The district finals will be held on Sunday at North Mymms.

But while the outdoor season continues, preparations are beginning for the start of the indoor one.

Harpenden Indoor Bowls Club have three open days available for potential new players, or lapsed ones, to experience a "fun, social and active way" to spend free time.
