A schoolboy from Harpenden has been crowned world champion in a unique racket sport.

Racketlon is a sport where you play your opponent in back-to-back table tennis, badminton, squash and tennis, in that order.

The winner is then decided on points, with each discipline ending after one player has reached 21.

It is the racket world's version of an athletics decathlon and Daniel Austin came out on top in the U16 singles event in Rotterdam, picking up the gold and earning the world champion crown.

The Sir John Lawes School pupil came through his first match against Noah Bourgeois of France before seeing off Austria's Robin Sam.

The semi-final saw the 15-year-old Brit face top seed Michal Fojtik of Czechia and it was a victory of Romeo Sam of Austria that brought him the title.

The singles final was live-streamed, allowing his wider family and friends to watch his performance, as well as seeing him receive his medal and prize, before celebrating on the podium with the Union flag.

He was also part of the Great Britain squad taking part in the U18 team event.

And there was almost a double celebration, GB just missing out on a bronze medal by finishing fourth.
