St Albans Lizzie Bird produced her fastest ever run to set a new British record and finish seventh in the 3,000m steeplechase final at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Bird, a former member of the Welwyn Garden City-based Herts Phoenix club as well as an ex-pupil of St Albans School, was one of 15 to make the final in the Stade de France.
The race started with seven of the favourites blasting out over the opening few laps, almost at world record pace.
Bird kept calm, sticking to her own plan, and found herself in a second group.
She and home French favourite, Alice Finot, though began to pull themselves clear as the lap counter moved down.
Winfred Yavi of Bahrain went on to win in it in an Olympic record, with defending champion Peruth Chemutai of Uganda second and Kenya's Faith Cherotich.
Finot got herself into fourth and under nine minutes, setting a new European record, and Bird almost caught Ethiopia's Sembo Almayew, having to settle for seventh and the breaking of her own British record.
Her new PB is nine minutes 4.35 seconds.
