It was another busy week for the bowls clubs of Harpenden, Townsend and St Albans.

Harpenden ladies played in the first round of the St Albans & District double rink competition against Kings Langley and won 40-16, winning both the home and away rink.

The home rink was the best of them, a 25-5 victory for Viv Dale, Lyn Roberts, Carol Glanfield and Jennie Redford.

A home mixed triples against Shire Park ended with wins on all four rinks and 77-51 overall.

It was also a chance for some of the club's newer bowlers to enjoy competitive action over 18 ends.

The men made it three from three in the District League, beating St Albans 61-44 on all three rinks.

The club's ladies met in the District Triples League too, St Albans winning the away leg 16-12 for a 30-28 success overall.

Saints also beat Kitcheners 59-38 at home with the Rod Perks, Linda Burfield and Peter Kay forming the top rink.

They were less successful in its other fixtures.

The hottest day of the year saw  game with North Mymms reduced to 16 ends, with Mymms winning 57-54.

The four rinks were shared with the top rink of Les Kirk, Roy Andrews and Andy Kay, winning 22-10.

Saturday's fixture at home to Herts was played across five rinks and St Albans won just one of them.

Peter Browne, Paul Hughes and Peter Kay triumphed 24-10 but overall it was a 98-66 defeat.

Townsend welcomed three rinks from North Mymms for a District League encounter and secured 60 points in a 81-36 success.

Les Perkins, Matt Stuart-Reid, playing in his first district match, Gordon Williamson and Peter Armstrong set off fast, leading 13-0 at halfway before winning 18-12.

The best rink brought a 28-7 win while the third ended in a 17-15 loss.
