Harpenden moved closer to the Herts Cricket League Premier Division title but there was a vital win for Shenley Village at the other end of the table too.

Harps are still 38 points clear at the summit as their seven-wicket win over West Herts was matched by Potter Bar's success over Totteridge Millhillians.

However, with just five games to go, time is running out for the chasing pack to overhaul the leaders.

This win saw them race to victory.

They had been given a target of 245, Callum Taylor's 117 not out the highlight in the visitors' innings.

Usman Malik and Harry Seagrave did most of the damage for Harpenden, taking 4-57 and 3-46.

But it was their batsmen who turned up the heat, passing the winning line in the 43rd over with an unbeaten centurion of their own.

That was Scott Galloway who got to 103 not out in 107 deliveries, bashing 14 fours along the way.

Andrew Neal was also not out at the end on 64, the pair having made 116 for the fourth wicket.

Olly Batchelor also chipped in with 40.

At the other end of the table, Shenley Village picked up a potentially vital victory, beating neighbours Radlett by 30 runs.

It was only their second success of the campaign but moves them to within five points of Old Owens and relegation play-off, and a further 24 behind complete safety.

Put into bat, Shenley were excellent and got to 232-8 after their 60 overs.

Will Thomson just got the prize for top score, his 56 one more than Lathan Mahalingam and four ahead of the 52 not out from Patrick Dooley.

Suhaan Shovakar was Radlett's top wicket taker with 4-79.

The reply was ticking along quite nicely until Shenley took three wickets in less than three overs.

That suddenly sent Radlett from 106-2 to 118-5 and the runs began to dry up.

They were suddenly left nursing just one wicket in the 52nd over at 181-9 but were closing in on a draw.

However, on the third ball of the last over, Rohan Fraser was trapped by Yash Lakhani and Radlett were all out for 202.

Dooley was the pick of the bowlers for Shenley with 4-55, just beating Kris Nissen's 4-62.

Radlett's top scorer with the bat was Jayden Broodryk with 41.

St Albans meanwhile have their own hopes of a great escape from the Championship after a four-wicket win at Dunstable Town.

Jamie Regan's 70 proved crucial as Saints moved to 36 points from safety.

They face Preston at home on Saturday, the side directly above them in the table.

Five wickets for Stuart Barker guided Redbourn to five-wicket win at Old Elizabethans, seemingly putting any fears of relegation from Division One to bed.
