Running might not have been on the agenda for many after the excesses of Christmas but that didn't stop St Albans Striders from putting in some impressive performances before Big Ben heralded in the new year.
At the Buntingford 10mile race on Saturday, Penny Habbick came first in her age category in a time of one hour five minutes 53 seconds.
She was joined by Fleur Harvey-Keenan and Karen Sheard as the second placed team in the incorporated Herts County Championship.
There were also strong finishes for John Cooper (1:09:04), Marco Paganuzzi (1:12:55) and Anna Silkstone (1:21:21).
But they weren't done and to wrap up 2023, the Striders dominated the St Albans 10K on New Year’s Eve.
There was an impressive second and third-place finish for Freya Weddell (40:46) and Laura Johnston (42:27) while Emily Hickey-Baird, Marie Ostler and Carla Moseley all finished inside 50 minutes, taking additional places in the top 20 females.
Alex Johnston was first male Strider home, coming 18th overall, and 10th male, in a time of 39:52.
John Logan finished as 20th male in 40:30.
With an impressive end to 2023, the club are excitedly turning their attention to more and better performances in 2024.
