Verulam Reallymoving cyclists are itching to get their Fete du Velo in Redbourn under way - as the form in the legs is fairly obvious to see.
The event takes place around Redbourn Common on Sunday, July 2, with races from U8s, starting at 9.30am, and running all the way up to masters level in the middle of the afternoon.
And the St Albans-based cycling race team will go there on an unprecedented high, having achieved successes in a wider range of disciplines than ever before in the team’s seven-year history.
VRM has another national series overall winner, this time off-road with Alarik Knox taking the win in the U14 Southern XC mountain bike race.
Sister Emma Knox was third overall in the U12 series.
Paul Caton also claimed more off-road success, with second place in the national BMCR Mountain Bike Championships at Wibtoft against a very strong field.
Alan Gunner is further Verulam Reallymoving rider competing strongly at a national level, recently taking fourth in his national MTB XC race in Cornwall.
The team’s time-trial squad have also been on their best form to date with Matt Wight winning the men’s Millenium Trophy, the points league for nine individual TT events in the north London area, and team-mate John Jones runner-up as top veteran.
Karine Jones was the winner of the women’s overall Millenium Trophy.
Youth time trialist Benjamin Cousins has been posting impressive times, including finishing as the fastest youth in the Maldon & District 25-mile event, marking him down as a rider to watch for the future.
The team’s younger riders have also been in strong form on the track, with George Rice, Dale Jetmar, Samuel Stacey all being regular visitors to the podium in the popular Friday evening Welwyn Track League events.
New signing to the team, Mike Debney, had his first outing in Verulam Reallymoving colours at Bovingdon in the latest round of the Bovingdon Bomber Series, and promptly took the win in the men’s category three/four race.
He joins team-mates Mark McGrady, Matt Wight, Batu Yildiz and Matt Davey as a front-runners for the future Bovingdon Bomber events.
Former Verulam Reallymoving junior, Will Smith, also placed seventh in the U23 men's time trial at the National Championships.
