City of St Albans Swimming Club is on track to become the most successful club in the County this year - with a number of recent record-breaking wins at local, regional and national championships.
A total of 45 athletes from the club, aged between 10 and 17, qualified for Swim England East Region’s Long Course Championships, competing in more than 150 events.
A third of them placed in the top three too, with gold medals for Verity Fuge (50m butterfly) and Anna Zapitskeya (50m backstroke).
There were six silver medals too, Gigi Raubitchek-Smith (50m and 100m breaststroke), Anna Zapitskeya (50m freestyle), Verity Fuge (50m freestyle), Florence Crowley (200m butterfly) and Tigerlily Donald (50m butterfly).
Seven bronze medals from Brad Lau (50m freestyle), Akey Cheng (200m butterfly), Jasmine Scott (50m freestyle), George Hooper (1500m freestyle), Georgina Hamilton (200m breaststroke), Tigerlily Donald (100m butterfly) and Verity Fuge (50m butterfly) completed the set.
Eight CoStA swimmers are now ranked to compete at British and English Nationals this summer, a record for the club and a demonstration of the hard work and dedication of each swimmer through intense training.
In another major win for the club, both CoStA's A and B team and B team won first-round galas in the Hertfordshire’s Peanuts League, an event aimed at nine to 12-year-olds.
CoStA head coach Mike Cole said: "I am delighted to see so many of our swimmers exceeding their personal goals to qualify for championships.
"I’m proud of the breadth and depth we’ve developed in our younger age group teams.
We had great success at our recent galas and championships – a pattern I hope will continue through the summer and beyond."
