David Noble declared himself "delighted" to be announced as St Albans City's full-time head coach but admitted there is plenty of work needed to improve after Kidderminster Harriers' win in the FA Trophy.
The official unveiling came just 90 minutes before kick-off ahead of the National League North side's 2-1 win.
City's form in the period with Noble in caretaker charge following the sacking of Ian Allinson was cited as the reason and the now head coach is happy to have been given the opportunity.
I'm delighted," he said. "There is a lot of work to be done and now I can focus on doing it."
Noble admitted previously that his work-life balance had taken a hit during his temporary tenure, highlighted the difficulty in juggling a full-time job with the football role.
He revealed he will be "working less" to have more time to focus on St Albans, and a disappointing performance against Kiddie was not how he wanted to start.
Mitchell Weiss had given Saints the lead after 13 minutes but two second-half goals ended the club's involvement in the competition early.
Noble said: "The first half was OK but still not great. We were delighted to go in with the 1-0 lead.
"We knew they were going to come out second half as any football club does being 1-0 down.
"We just didn’t deal with that.
"The first goal [after 48 minutes] was very soft and you can't do that.
"That's just given them exactly what they want and exactly what we didn't want.
"From there, I don’t think we’ve put their goal under much threat and we’ve got to improve."
Noble was full of praise though for goalkeeper Dylan Berry after another great performance.
The youngster, on loan from Norwich City, has proven a fine signing for the Saints and he provided yet more outstanding saves against Kidderminster.
"He’s been excellent," said Noble. "I [told the team] in the dressing room, he kept the score down for you.
"It could have been three, four or even five without him.
"He’s been great during the loan spell."
Noble's appointment also means a chance in the coaching structure below.
Jon Meakes will continue as his assistant coach, the role meaning he passes his job as reserves manager on to Tony Gauthier.
