Verulam Golf Club’s academy director, Laurence Allen, narrowly missed out on the Herts Open title, losing by two shots to James Jankowski.
On a wet and windy day at Dyrham Park Country Club Jankowski won both the Open and the Herts Professional Championship with two solid rounds of 72 and 74, for a total of 146 (+2), to win both events by two shots.
Jankowski, a former Hertfordshire County player when an amateur at Potters Bar and Porters Park, held the lead after the morning round, with an impressive 72 in the difficult conditions. He would lead by one shot from Tommy Obergan, assistant professional from Berkhamsted, and two shots from Allen.
Jankowski held his lead through to the finish when both he and Allen returned afternoon scores of 74 (+2) in arguably more testing conditions than the morning round. Obergan shot an afternoon 77 to finish in 3rd position on 150 (+8)
