Harpenden were bowled out for 93 against Sawbridgeworth chasing 156, and are now eliminated from the Readers County T20 Cup.
In a must win game to qualify out of Group B, Harpenden limited Sawbridgeworth to 156 in the first innings with notable performances coming from Scott Galloway (1-22) and Ben Frazer (1-26), who both gave very little away.
Harry Jerome was the pick of the batsman, hitting 43 off 32 balls, but a tight spell from Guy Watts (2-40) at the end of the innings meant Sawbridgeworth did not finish with a flurry of boundaries.
On what is a high scoring ground at Sawbridgeworth, Nick Lamb’s men were going into the second innings full of confidence they could chase it down.
However, the batting did not live up to its expectations. George Kenny (3-14) provided Sawbridgeworth with the perfect start, dismissing openers, Frazer and Gregg Cooper by sending their off stumps to Mars. He then picked up the wicket of Lamb, leaving Harpenden 21-3 and with it all to do.
Scott Galloway was the only batsman to make a valid contribution, scoring 42 off 30 balls. Jake Pankhurst and Frazer were the next highest scorers with 11, followed by extras contributing seven runs.
Stumps continued to cartwheel and the consistent fall of wickets put the chase beyond Harpenden. In the end Harpenden were 67 runs short and as a result bow out of the T20 competition after failing to qualify out of the group.
