St Albans City boss Ian Allinson was delighted with the solidity of his side following Saturday’s 0-0 National League South draw at Hungerford Town.
It was the first time since December his side had secured back-to-back clean-sheets and was their second match unbeaten.
Saturday’s draw, against a side aiming for the play-offs, followed the 1-0 home win over Dartford, another targeting the play-offs, which had brought an eight-game winless streak to an end.
After Saturday’s stalemate, Allinson said: “We went into the Dartford game apprehensive in terms of the amount of goals we had conceded [18 in six games previously], but the last two weeks we’ve been very solid.
“Rusty [James Russell, keeper] hasn’t really had a save to make today [Saturday] so what he had to deal with he did well.
“We had three or four really good opportunities to go and nick something from the game.
“At times we defended quite deep, when we did get hold of the ball and pass the ball we created three or four really good chances and their keeper made two great saves and one in the first half was outstanding.
“Overall I was very satisfied and the biggest thing was we added another clean-sheet which is important.”
Allinson is starting to see a turnaround having freshened up his playing squad following a run of one win in 15 prior to the Dartford encounter.
“It was a tough period,” he said.
“We had to make changes, we had players that were going through the motions, we had players that did not want to be at the football club and we had to make those decisions.
“We have got players now who want to be at the football club, who want to work hard for the football club and we have seen that with the last two results.”
This Saturday St Albans welcome second bottom-of-the-table Margate to Clarence Park, a side City beat 2-0 away in December.
But Allinson has warned not to get carried away with two good results and their next opponent’s league position.
He added: “That will be a tough game, if we think we have made it because of two clean-sheets we are a million miles away from where we need to be, but it’s a start.”
With five matches left of the season, St Albans sit 10th in the table with 53 points from 37 games.
