Saints came from behind three times to earn a share of the spoils at Hardenhuish Park and snap a three-game losing run in the league.

Zane Banton, Tom Bender and Rhys Murrell-Williamson were on target in Wiltshire for Ian Allinson’s men, who return to Clarence Park to host Bognor next weekend. Banton created the first chance of the game, beating a defender and sending a low cross into the box in the second minute, but none of his team-mates could capitalise.

Dean Snedker was called upon to save Alex Ferguson’s shot with his feet on five minutes, but the home side took the lead moments later when a long throw-in was flicked on and Will Richards headed home.

Solomon Sambou did well to try and set up David Noble, but Chippenham countered and forced a string of corners, before Nathaniel Pinney fired over for the visitors.

Saints were back on level terms on 17 minutes, though, when some good pressure forced an opening for Banton, who fired past Jared Thompson.

Banton then produced a great run to set up Murrell-Williamson, but his shot was blocked and Chippenham regained the lead from another set-piece when Richards headed home his second goal of the game from a corner.

The hosts went close to a third when a shot deceived Snedker and flew wide of the far post, but Saints almost drew level for a second time when Noble’s shot from the edge of the box went just past the upright.

Layne Eadie made a couple of good runs at the start of the second half, but Saints had a let-off when they failed to clear and saw Chippenham flash a shot just wide.

Another shot was blocked in the box as Saints continued to live dangerously, but Noble then had a goalbound effort deflected over at the other end and saw another attempt fell a home defender.

Saints were back on terms on 66 minutes, though, as Eadie’s corner found Bender unmarked to head back across the face goal and into the net.

But their joy was shortlived as Chippenham were back in front a minute later when a throw-in from Andy Sandell landed at the feet of Ferguson and he slotted past Snedker.

The home side had appeals for a penalty waved away when Sandell went down in the box as he tried to round Snedker, after Bender misjudged a long kick from Thompson.

But Sambou flashed a shot just wide for Saints and Sam Merson sent a header narrowly over the crossbar, before Murrell-Williamson levelled things up once again with a superb strike on 78 minutes.

Thompson made a decent save to keep out a long-range shot from Noble, before the Bluebirds went close from a free-kick, but it ended all square as Saints picked up their first point in four matches.
