Jake Reeves says he made the switch to Stevenage to win things and after an enjoyable pre-season, his view has not changed.
The midfielder came in from Notts County in June and like the other new faces, he has had to adapt quickly to the style of play and the demands of the management team.
But he saw something in Stevenage before he signed and hasn't seen anything yet to say he has made a mistake.
He said: "Everyone has different styles of playing and different managers want you to play in different ways.
"The first couple of [pre-season] games I played was as a number 10, to try and look at that picture, to get it on the half turn and play higher up.
"Against Crystal Palace I played in the four position and why wouldn’t you want to play in this style? It is all about us having the ball so it is brilliant.
"[Alex Revell and Dean Wilkins] are very thorough and very detailed in training on what they want and how they do things.
"Other clubs may have a certain way of playing but if it doesn’t work they’ll go longer.
"Here that is not going to happen. It is going to be a case of we’re going to nail our way of playing and if it doesn’t work then we are going to keep working on it until it does.
"As a player you always go to places because you feel that you can achieve something and leave your mark on it.
"I don’t think that is any different this year. We’re moving along quite nicely and hopefully we can take that straight into the early part of the season."
There is another part of pre-season that has delighted the 28-year-old, the return of fans.
The Lamex hosted games against Premier Division pair Crystal Palace and Watford and Reeves thoroughly enjoyed the backing from the stands.
He said: "It’s amazing to have them back and everyone seemed happy to be here. The players were all happy to see everyone and obviously playing in front of crowds is part and parcel of why you play football. It is enjoyable and you thrive off it.
"Last season was odd not playing in front of people, playing in a massive but empty ground was bizarre, so it is brilliant that everyone can come back.
"It has been a tough year for everyone."
And there is one game in particular that he is also ready looking forward, partly because of the noise that the crowd will generate, the Carabao Cup first round clash with neighbours Luton Town.
"That’ll be brilliant," he enthused. "I’ve been told little bits and I’ll need to learn a little bit more but I know it is a big one.
"It is a great way to start off the season and with fans allowed back in, it is perfect."
