A special community carol service is set to be held in St Albans Cathedral this weekend.

The event, supported by The Royal Foundation, is one of 15 'Together at Christmas' services inspired by the Princess of Wales' Westminster Abbey service, which will be televised on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.

The service, honouring individuals and organisations that have shown love, kindness, and empathy, will take place on Sunday, December 8 at 6pm.

Amanda Berry, CEO of The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales, said: "I am delighted that The Royal Foundation is supporting 15 fantastic community carol services, bringing the spirit of ‘Together at Christmas’ to every corner of the UK.

"These events create special moments that unite communities and recognise those who have shown exceptional compassion.

"Their selfless dedication has not gone unnoticed, and we are proud to honour them in this way."

The service will bring together hundreds of residents, including those who work and volunteer for medical, charitable, and youth organisations across Hertfordshire.

Representatives from Rennie Grove Peace Hospice, West Herts Teaching Hospital NHS Trust, St John Ambulance, and a cancer patient will read at the service.

Prayers will be led by volunteers from the University of Hertfordshire Chaplaincy and Stand-by-me, a bereavement support charity.
