An historic Harpenden wedding venue is planning to make major extensions for a new public café.
Currently, Rothamsted Manor plays host to fantastic weddings and private parties. Despite a public restaurant on its neighbouring research site, the manor is predominantly event hire only.
Its larger events spaces include "The Auditorium", "Fowden Hall" and the "Plaza & Fowden Foyer", with capacity for hundreds of guests.
In a new application to St Albans City and District Council - submitted on behalf of the venue - they wish to extend the existing premises licence.
An accompanying statement reads: "The proposed application allows the public to access the spaces for general entertainment purposes, namely a café to cater for users of the permissive pathways on the Rothamsted Estate."

The licence application includes provision of regulated entertainment (e.g., live and recorded music), supply of alcohol for on-premises consumption, and late-night refreshments.
Rothamsted's application will allow it to continue to cater for private hire events, weddings, and ticketed events on the ground floor of the manor, gardens and in several outbuildings.
