The lesser known St Albans train line known as the 'Abbey Flyer' has seen an increase in passengers during the last year.

Stations on the Abbey Line running into Watford Junction have shown increases in passenger journeys over the past year – all except Watford North, which has remained similar.

The latest data from the Office of Rail and Road estimates that the six stations together hosted 16,300 more passenger journeys than in the previous year.

St Albans Abbey had 6,764 more passengers between April 2023 and March 2024 than in the same period last year, with a total of 117,888 for 2024.

Park Street station retained its title as the least-used station in Herts while Watford Junction station narrowly took the top spot for the county’s most-used station.

The latest findings estimate that there were just under 6.5 million passenger journeys through Watford Junction between April 2023 and March 2024 – nearly a million more than the previous year.

This is less than off peak-usage figures of 8.5 million pre-COVID, but follows a continuing upward trend.

St Albans City station led the table last year but was a close runner-up with 6.3 million passenger journeys.

Across the UK a total of 1.6 million passenger journeys made between April 2023 and March 2024 – an increase of 16% from the previous year.
