MP Daisy Cooper joined St Albans BID and a domestic violence charity today raising money through cycling.
BID Manager Vivien Cannon and MP Cooper helped the Domestic Abuse (DA) Alliance "Clock Up the Miles".
Staff from the DA Alliance, along with supporters of the service, have been taking it in turns on exercise bikes to cycle 100 miles and raise £1,000 for the charity.
A Facebook post by MP Cooper read: "Today in St Albans, the incredible team at DA Alliance UK and StAlbans Police officers are cycling 100 miles to raise £1,000 for WhiteRibbon_UK, who work to prevent violence against women and girls."
"Head down to the Clock Tower from 11am to 5pm to donate and cheer them on!" The post added.
The cycle is being held in honour of White Ribbon Day - November 25 - an event dedicated to raising awareness about men’s violence against women and girls, and the role men can play in ending it.
Members of the public are being encouraged to donate towards the fundraising target in exchange for a white ribbon. The white ribbon symbolises allyship, and the idea that men should take responsibility to challenge gender-based violence.
All day, The White Swan has been providing refreshments to the cyclists and passing crowds from a mobile bar, with proceeds taken by the bar supporting the fundraiser.
Cyrus, the city’s popular busking soul singer, is also leading the vocal support for participants.
The Clock Tower event continues until 5pm this evening. Go down and show your support or donate here: https://gofund.me/4c2f3f22
