The incident occurred at around 12.10pm on Friday, November 15, when it was reported that someone took a large Bible from a stand in St Peters Church in St Peter's Street.
Sergeant Lee Hammond said: "We are releasing this image as we believe this individual was in the area at the time and could have vital information for our investigations.
"The Bible holds sentimental value to the church, and we are keen to get it back to its rightful owners.
