An application has been approved for the construction of multiple flats above four occupied units on Harpenden High Street.
Estate Agents Aitchison Raffety sought prior approval for the conversion of office space on the first and second floors of the building to become a residential property - which has been approved.
The offices are located at 13 to 15 High Street, residing above Shake 'N' Cow, Cancer Research shop, Reads Florists and Harpenden Barbers.
That space is set to become five single occupancy flats - three on the first floor and two on the second floor.
All residences will "meet or exceed the Nationally Described Space Standards" according to the planning statement, with each home no bigger than 40.5m squared in size.
"Habitable rooms would have clear glazed openings, providing good levels of light and outlook," the statement added.

In the decision notice, a planning officer suggested there is "no significant, or severe, impact on the transport network".
Herts County Council Highways highlighted slight alterations, but concluded that plans would not give rise to an unacceptable impact on the safety or operation of the surrounding highway and raises no objections".
