An historic St Albans public house could undergo major changes in 2025.
Hatfield Road pub, The Rats Castle, is set to be renamed to "The Old Toll House" and be refurbished into a "sports" focused establishment next year.
A statement on Star Pubs' website says The Rats Castle "has long stood as a testament to the town's rich history, blending a traditional British pub with the enduring spirit of the local community".
The company aims to refurbish the pub to host up to 90 internal covers and 24 external covers, also adding a "SmartDispense" system to help serve "quality draft beer and cider".
A spokesperson for Star Pubs told The Herts Advertiser: “We are planning a refurbishment of The Rats Castle in 2025 to breathe new life into this once popular community local.
"The pub will have a new name and focus on sports."
The pub contractor also provided internal concept photos below:
A new concept menu has also been created for the refurbished boozer including a variety of shots & bombs (with deals), cocktails, wines, beers and spirits - the pub will be wet only.
The company is looking for a new management agreement and estimates a total of £57,480 of earnings for the next pub owner, with an estimated annual turnover of £508,940.

Accompanying the pub is an upstairs residential unit featuring two bedrooms, living room, kitchen and bathroom.
Anyone who wants to find out more about taking over The Rat’s Castle (The Old Toll House) has been asked to called the recruitment team on 08085 949596.
The new name may be an homage to the original toll house which was based on the site before it was known as The Rats Castle - due to an alleged rodent infestation.
