A fake parking restriction sign has been fixed onto a pole in a residential road in Park Street without the council’s permission, causing confusion for drivers over its legitimacy.
The sign erected on Maplefield falsely tells drivers they need a permit when parking on the street between 10am and 8.30pm on Mondays, and from 8.30am to 8.30pm from Tuesday to Sunday.
A spokesperson from the St Albans City and District Council has said: “The sign was confirmed as bogus and appears to have been put up as some sort of prank.
“It is due to be taken down today.”
They went on to say that due to the sign being fixed with tamper-proof fittings, it could not be taken down when a staff member was sent out to investigate the matter after being made aware of the sign.
The mysterious appearance of this sign has caused a debate on Facebook with users trying to figure out if the sign is real, fake or if it was stolen from somewhere.
One user said: “I can’t wait to find out what borough the sign has been stolen from.”
Another user said: “I think the real problem here is vandalism and fly posting!”
