(Image: Hertfordshire County Council) Herts Highways have planned "phased road closures" at night to "minimise disruption" and confirmed the stretch of road will not be closed on the weekend.

In a post on X, HCC said: "We’re completing phased resurfacing works on Station Road Harpenden beginning Sunday, November 5, for the increased comfort and safety of road users."

"Thank you for your patience during these works," the post added.

The roadworks will be completed in two phases as listed below:

  • Phase 1: 5 - 6 November, (8pm - 5am) from Station Approach to the Harpenden Arms, south.
  • Phase 2: 6 - 12 November, (8pm - 5am) from the Amble Inn to Lower Luton Road. There will be a part closure on Lower Luton Road and Coldharbour Lane, north.

HCC suggested that the road's surface had become worn due to the "high volume of traffic". The works will "renew the old road surface, clean road drains, and reinstate road markings and studs".

Funding for the road upgrades has been made possible by reallocated HS2 money.
