A popular St Albans bakery has been awarded a 5/5 hygiene rating by the Food Standards Agency.
In a recent inspection, Proto Artisan Bakery, of 12 Chequer Street, was recognised for its high standards of safety.
The bakery was rated "good" in all areas including hygienic food handling, cleanliness and condition of facilities, and building and management of food safety.
Since opening, Proto has been a hit with St Albans locals and beyond, frequently having queues outside the door and up the street for those wanting to try its fresh coffee and pastries.

Husband and wife team James and Jo-Anne announced plans to bring Proto Artisan Bakery to the city after the success of their shop in Ware.
This was brought to fruition when the new store opened Saturday, September 28.
A recent post on Instagram was captioned: "Calling St Albans foodies! Have you been in to visit our new bakery yet? We can't wait to see you!"
The bakery offers an array of sourdough options, sausage rolls, mince pies, cinnamon knots and a wide range of other pastries.
Alongside the perfect hygiene rating, James and Jo-Anne's efforts were recognised earlier this year when they were crowned winners of the Hertfordshire category in the 2024 National Bakery Awards.
