A scheme that provides schools with fruit trees and strawberry plants is set to expand in the St Albans district.
Since 2022, the Veolia Orchard initiative has delivered 25 fruit trees and 10 strawberry plants to six schools in the district.
This is part of a larger project across the UK, with 1,085 trees and 780 strawberry plants given to 291 schools.
Pascal Hauret, municipal managing director at Veolia, said: "The Veolia Orchard scheme is about growing more than just fruit; it's about cultivating a love of nature in our future environmental ambassadors."
The scheme aims to help young people understand the benefits of nature and improve local biodiversity.
Schools can apply online until November 8, 2024 and will be informed of their success from November 25.
Deliveries will take place in spring 2025 with the option of an interactive planting event led by Veolia experts.
