A tornado warning has been issued for Hertfordshire, as more bad weather is set to sweep across the county this week.

Flooding hit on Monday, causing traffic chaos and damage to businesses.

Now, the weather set to take another turn - according to The Tornado and Storm Research Organisation (TORRO).

TORRO has issued a warning for "isolated tornados, hail, lightning and gusty winds of up to 50mph" for much of southern England, which is in place until 7pm today (September 26).

"Showers and isolated thunderstorms are already present around parts of south west and southern England, and these will tend to move north east through this morning, with other showers and a few thunderstorms developing inland via diurnal heating," the warning reads.

"Deep layer shear is favourable for small clusters or lines of storms to form, and whilst low-level shear is reasonably modest, some backing of the flow ahead of the trough could assist in the development of low-level rotation, and perhaps a brief tornado or two.

"Gusty winds and lightning will affect some places, along with hail."

The Met Office has also issued a yellow weather warning for rain and thunderstorms, which is in place until 9am tomorrow.

"Whilst some areas will miss the worst, heavy showers and some thunderstorms will occur during today," the warning states.

"10 to 15mm of rain could occur within an hour from the heavy showers during today, with a few places possibly seeing 30mm over a few hours.

"There still remains some uncertainty in the details for Thursday evening and overnight, but some locations may see up 20 to 30mm of rain in two to three hours, and perhaps 40 to 60mm in three to six hours.

"Given the recent very wet weather, this will bring the potential for further flooding and transport disruption."
