Plans have been approved for two new homes to be built at the rear of an existing property in St Albans.
The homes will be built at the rear of the flat block at 40 Grosvenor Road.
An existing shop building will be demolished to make way for the new properties.
A planning statement included with the original application reads: "The external appearance of the dwellings follows a contemporary design, set over two levels.
"The frontage of the property would present itself as single-story to Grosvenor Road, and the rear of the property would present itself as two-storey to London Road."

The proposals were subject to four objections.
The St Albans Civic Society said: "This application represents overdevelopment of the site and will prejudice the protected trees.
"It will also set a precedent for further development of rear gardens."
A neighbouring resident wrote: "This part of St Albans has already been massively overdeveloped in recent years and parking is already at a premium."
They also expressed concerns about the "significant threat" the plans would pose to the woodland.
However, developers DLA Town Planning say that the plans will "enhance the green character at the edge of the site and cause no detriment to the surrounding area".
