A "moving and thrilling" musical about friendship is heading to the Abbey Theatre in St Albans next week.

Merrily We Roll Along will be staged from Wednesday, September 25 to Saturday, September 28, with evening performances at 7.30pm and a Saturday matinée at 2.30pm.

Presented by Ever After Productions, the show spans three decades in the entertainment business and is told in reverse order, charting the turbulent relationship between composer Franklin Shepard (Stewart Jordan) and his two lifelong friends, writer Mary (Elise Betts) and lyricist and playwright Charley (Gareth Edwards).

Led by director Dom O'Hanlon and musical director Clive Ogden, the cast all come from Hertfordshire - and a large number are St Albans residents.

Ever After Productions was formed by Charlotte and Matthew Gregory - who are from St Albans - and Elise Betts as a tribute to the late Stephen Sondheim.

Their debut production Dear Steve was a concert celebration of the composer and pianist's work, and was performed at the Abbey Theatre in October 2022.
