A new surgical centre at St Albans City Hospital is set to open its doors in the spring.

The Hertfordshire and West Essex Surgical Centre in St Albans will aim to provide patients with quicker access to non-complex operations and procedures for patients.

The building’s base and steel structure are in place, the lift shaft and main staircase have been installed and the operating theatre floors have been added, with the centre on course to open early next year.

Patients who are waiting for hip and knee surgery, spinal injections or minor ear, nose, and throat operations will be treated at the centre which will care for around 4,000 patients a year, mostly as day patients.

The centre is being worked on collaboratively between the Hertfordshire and West Essex Integrated Care Board (ICB), The East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust, and the West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
