St Albans is the best place to live in Hertfordshire according to a poll of Muddy Stilettos readers.

Readers of the popular lifestyle website were asked to rank Hertfordshire locations and the verdict is in, with St Albans taking the crown ahead of Tring and Hitchin.

St Albans won over voters thanks to its "rich Roman history, speedy London commute, excellent shopping and fantastic foodie scene, which create a lively high street and buzzy market town vibe".

Voting took place between July 30 and August 15 this year, with each reader having one vote.

Readers were provided with a wealth of information to help inform their vote, including house prices, a list of schools in the area and a guide to the culture of the city.

St Albans High School for Girls, St Columba’s College and Beechwood Park were flagged as some of the best schools in the area, while readers were also impressed by the city's strong transport links to London and reputation as a commuter hotspot.
