An elderly Park Street resident has expressed fears that upcoming road closures could leave him "isolated".

From August 19, areas of the Park Street Village will be closed 24 hours a day for sevens weeks to facilitate drainage works.

Watling Street, Radlett Road and Frogmore will all be closed while the work is carried out.

Watling Street connects Park Street to Radlett and is served by two bus routes - the 601 and the 364.

Neither routes will be running during the near two-month period of closures, creating issues for those who can't walk long distances or drive.

Roger Gray, 85, uses a walking stick as a result of mobility issues.

He said: "For all of us that rely on these buses, there has been no information, what on earth are we going to do?

"People with disabilities and mobility issues aren't considered when these decisions are made. We're not going to be able to get our shopping or get to the dentist or hospital appointments."

Roger fears that the only solution may be to get taxis everywhere - an option few can afford.

The retired paper merchant says that Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) has not consulted people about the impact on public transport, or even provided sufficient notice about the planned works.

HCC say that residents can catch the 635 bus from How Wood.

But Roger is unimpressed by the response, noting that this stop is an impractical half a mile walk away.

He also notes that this route won't take people into St Albans - where many appointments are scheduled.

Roger is calling for HCC to put on hourly mini buses, claiming they have a "duty of care" to residents.

During the period of closures, diversions will be in place for drivers. Emergency access will be maintained at all times.
