A yellow weather warning is in place for Hertfordshire and much of the UK, with thunderstorms set to hit later this week.
The Met Office has issued the warning for 12pm until 11.59pm on Thursday (August 1), which stretches to the east coast, into Wales in the west, and as far north as Middlesborough.
"Heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop on Thursday and may lead to some disruption," the warning reads.
"The exact location of showers is still uncertain and some places will stay dry all day. However, where the showers do occur they could be torrential, with the additional hazards of lightning, hail and gusty winds.
"The heaviest showers could result in 20-30 mm within an hour, with 24 hour accumulations possibly reaching as much as 70-90 mm where multiple showers affect the same location."
Difficult driving conditions are expected, as are cancellations to train and bus services, but there is less of a chance that flooding could cause damage or danger to life.
The Met Office has admitted that the chances of the thunderstorms hitting are low, adding: "This warning has a very low likelihood and a medium impact."
