Confusion continues over the suspension of services at Harpenden Post Office, with the town's politicians calling for clarity over the situation.

The Herts Ad reported last week that services had been suspended indefinitely due to "access issues at the rear of the premises".

While other delivery services, such as Evri and DPD, remain operational, customers have been turned away as the branch is no longer accepting Royal Mail parcels.

The Post Office is part of the WHSmith's at 29 High Street, next to a branch of Sainsbury's.

An employee is reported to have claimed Sainsbury's are blocking access for vans, creating the issue.

With the closure now approaching a week, Cllr Richard Scott (Liberal Democrat) has taken to X, formerly known as Twitter, to demand answers over the situation.

In a post addressed to the supermarket giant, he wrote: "Can you explain what gives you the right to shut down Harpenden’s Post Office, cutting off access to essential services to Harpenden’s 30,000 residents?"

Harpenden's newly elected Liberal Democrat MP Victoria Collins has also highlighted the issue, asking effected constituents to get in touch with her.

While the branch remains restricted, residents are advised that their nearest branch is at 130 Southdown Road.

A spokesperson for Sainsbury's told the Herts Ad: “We are working with our neighbours to ensure that everyone can safely access the service yard at our Harpenden store when they need it.”
