Fire services have confirmed that nobody was hurt after a Toyota showroom garage was set ablaze yesterday (July 18).
Herts Fire and Rescue services were called to the Steven Eagell showroom in Park Street at 4.37pm to reports of a fire.
Three fire engines, from St Albans and Garston fire stations, were sent to the scene, where crews found a double garage set alight.
By 5.25pm, the blaze had been put out, with firefighters remaining at the scene until shortly after 6pm to monitor the situation and put out hotspots.
Thick black smoke could be seen behind the dealership and in the car park.
Mark Barber, Assistant Chief Fire Officer at Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "On arrival, firefighters were faced with a double garage that was well alight, and they were able to quickly contain and extinguish the fire. Fortunately nobody was hurt by the fire, which we believe started accidentally.”
While believed to be accidental, the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, despite speculation being rife across social media.
