A tennis club has been told to take action after an elderly resident complained of "dangerous" overhanging hedges near Harpenden Sports Centre.

John Dalton, 82, told the Herts Ad that drivers are left unable to see by the narrow path at the entrance to the car park, due to the hedges which have been "neglected".

He said: "Drivers have to be so careful because if somebody is coming you won't see them until they come round the other way."

"When people park their cars they can't go into the spots to park because the hedges have grown everywhere and is covering the space."

The former engineer warned that if not dealt with, a bad incident could occur - with the hedges even affecting parking spaces.

John says he contacted St Albans City and District Council, however they are not responsible for the hedge in question.

The hedges are the responsibility of the local tennis club and the council's parking team have now confirmed to the Herts Ad that the club will be asked to trim the hedges as soon as possible.

The tennis club did not respond to a request for comment.
