Hemel Hempstead's shopping centre was forced to close after a flood broke out.
Firefighters were called to Marlowes Shopping Centre on Tuesday afternoon after widespread reports of a water leak.
One fire engine from Hemel Hempstead station was sent to the scene, where crews found shallow water that affected large parts of the shopping centre.
The fire crew worked with shopping centre staff to isolate the electrics and make sure the site was safe for use.
Shoppers took to social media to both praise and share concerns over the response to the incident.
One person said: "Thank God all are OK, including staff!
"I know people are going to complain as it inconvenienced them and I'm sure people slipped too as its quite easy to do, but it was absolutely no one's fault.
"The staff were amazing at sorting it so promptly and ensuring all were safe. Their priority definitely was making sure everyone was safe as possible with quick evacuation."
Another commented: "My son fell over and hit his head! Thank god he’s okay but it was awful experience."
Following the flood, Marlowes has confirmed that the site will be open today (June 19), albeit with some changes.
The Centre Court and Stay and Play areas remain closed, as do Gaffer and Baggage World. Guest services have been temporarily relocated to the services hub.
An investigation is under way to determine the cause of the flood.
