Bestselling authors and illustrators entertained hundreds of families at the fourth St Albans High School for Girls (STAHS) Children's Book Festival.

The festival took place on Saturday, June 8, at STAHS Prep in Wheathampstead, and was attended by more than 1,000 people.

Beetle Boy and Twitchers author MG Leonard teamed up with her Adventures on Trains co-author Sam Sedgman in the signing tent, following popular individual talks.

There was also an appearance from Julia Donaldson's Zog - and even a Tardis.

Refreshments were available from a packed food court, and a book shop was provided by St Albans' Books on the Hill, while families enjoyed free face painting, lithography sessions and art and craft activities.

Mike Bryant, head of STAHS Prep, said: "I am very grateful to all the authors and illustrators who inspired children and adults alike with their fabulous talks.

"We couldn't have asked for a better day and my three-year-old son cannot believe that he got to meet Zog!"
