Sports cars are designed to be fast, but some drivers went too quickly in there vehicles on Hertfordshire's roads, and the courts came down hard on them.

Here are five Herts motorists fined for driving offences in sports cars.

1. Amit Shamal

On May 29, 2023, Amit Shamal was driving his Maserati Ghibli in Fairlands Way, Stevenage, when he was captured driving at 69mph in a 40mph zone.

Shamal, 45, of Foxglove Way, Welwyn, appeared at Stevenage Magistrates' Court on April 5, and was fined £660, ordered to pay a surcharge of £264 and costs of £90, totalling £1,014.

Six points were also added to his licence.

2. Andrew Newsome

On April 23, 2023, Andrew Newsome was driving his Porsche 911 GT2 between Junction 8 and Junction 9 of the M1 near Redbourn, when speed cameras captured his travelling at 102mph in a 70mph zone.

The 61-year-old, of Broad Walk, London, was fined £1,666, ordered to pay a surcharge of £666, and costs of £110, totalling £2,442, after appearing at Stevenage Magistrates' Court on March 28.

Six points were also added to his licence.

3. Fernando Guimaraes

On February 14, 2023, Fernando Guimaraes was driving his Lamborghini clockwise on the M25, between Junction 21A and Junction 22 near St Albans, when speed cameras captured him travelling at 103mph in a 70mph zone.

The 42-year-old, of Balwen Grove, Whitehouse, Milton Keynes, was fined £1,300, ordered to pay a surcharge of £520, and costs of £110, totalling £1,930, at Stevenage Magistrates' Court on April 18.

Six points were also added to his licence.

4. Philip Drummond

On December 31, 2023, Philip Drummond was driving his Porsche 911 Carrera on the A1000 Barnet Road in Potters Bar, when he was captured at 52mph in a 30mph zone.

Appearing at St Albans Magistrates' Court, the 49-year-old, of Silver Street, Goffs Oak, was fined £425, ordered to pay a surcharge of £226, and costs of £100.

For another offence on the same stretch of road the following day (January 1), he was fined £142 and had three points added to his licence for travelling at 39mph.

In total, he was fined £893.

5. Daniel Mauro

On July 27, 2023, while driving his Lamborghini Urus in Stevenage, Daniel Mauro failed to give information relating to the identification of the driver to the police when required.

The 36-year-old, of Newney Green, Chelmsford, Essex, was fined £440, ordered to pay a surcharge of £176, and costs of £110, after appearing at Stevenage Magistrates' Court on April 11.

Six points were also added to his licence.
