Homeless people in St Albans took part in a day of 'movement for mental health' as part of Mental Health Awareness Week.
The day was organised by Hightown Housing Association and focused on this year's theme of 'moving for your mental health'.
Coined by the Mental Health Foundation, the theme builds on the idea that physical health and mental health are linked, and that physical activity can provide a boost to someone's mental health.
A Local Government Association report found that mental health problems are twice as high among people experiencing homelessness compared to the general population.
The day hailed as a success, with participants having a go at activities such as pickleball, rock climbing and weightlifting.
A resident from Open Door night shelter said: "The event was absolutely incredible, and I have had so much fun. The past few weeks have been difficult and activities like these help me to take my mind off things.
"I am on day 14 since arriving at Open Door night shelter and with this kind of support, I am finding that things are improving for me every day, little by little."
The event was also attended by High Sheriff of Hertfordshire Annie Brewster.
