A play exploring the life of renowned composer, Sir Edward Elgar, is set to captivate audiences at the Abbey Theatre Studio over the next few days.
Presented by The Company of Ten, Elgar and Alice offers a thought-provoking portrayal of Elgar's complex personal life, including his marriage to his wife Alice and his relationship with his muse, known as 'Windflower'.
Set in 1920 within the Elgars’ Hampstead home, the drama delves into the composer's innovative creative process while revealing the complicated nature of the couple's marriage.
New Company of Ten member, Dan Clucas, will take on the role of Elgar.
Dan said: "I started out knowing nothing about the play.
"I couldn’t understand why Elgar would go from one emotion to another so quickly.
"How could he be such a mass of contradictions; angry, happy, hurtful, loving, funny and sad?

"Those contradictions are because of his genius, making him one of the most fascinating and exciting characters an actor could wish to play.
"It’s a wonderful play - a secret gem that audiences will love."
Bookings for the play, scheduled on selected dates between Friday, April 19 and Saturday, April 27, can be made through the Abbey Theatre website or by calling the box office on 01727 857861.
