An emergency road closure has left Radlett villagers "cut off" from London Colney.
Shenley Road has been shut due to works being carried out Cadent Gas, with pipes in "a very poor condition" according to the company.
With Harper Lane also closed due roadworks at the junction with the A5183, villagers now face "extremely long diversions" according to one resident.
A spokesman for Cadent said: “When we started work in Shenley Road, Radlett, our engineers saw that the pipes under the road were in a very poor condition.
"As such, the decision was made to put an emergency closure in place to ensure that work could be carried out as safely and as quickly as possible.
"This emergency closure is set to be in place for two weeks.
“We are very conscious of the disruption roadworks cause and are in regular contact with the Highways Authority to keep them updated on our work as we progress.
“If you smell gas, please act immediately and call the gas emergency service on 0800 111 999*. Please do not assume it is related to this.
"It may not be and needs to be checked out.”
