Reports of 'group trouble' in St Albans has caused the closure of 'Britain's Oldest Pub' the Ye Olde Fighting Cocks.
The Abbey Mill Lane site posted a message on Facebook this afternoon (Wednesday, February 28) informing customers that is has had to close.
A member of staff told The Herts Advertiser that they believe other pubs in the area have also shut.
Ye Olde Fighting Cocks' message on Facebook read: "Sorry we have had to close this afternoon after pub watch reports of group trouble in St Albans."
Elsewhere, The Peahen told this paper that it will be closed until 5pm, and The Boot is currently closed due to a water leak.
Hertfordshire Constabulary confirmed that officers have not attended pubs in the area.
A spokesperson for the service did confirm: "We are aware of an incident at the Chequers pub, Redbourn Road last night (Tuesday, February 27), where significant damage was caused. However, we can confirm that Hertfordshire police have not been instructing any pubs to close.
"Enquiries into the incident at the Chequers pub continue."
