This year's St Albans pancake race has raised £5,534 for Home-Start Hertfordshire, a charity that supports families who are vulnerable and struggling to cope.
Last Tuesday (February 13), teams from businesses and charities alike braved the rain to compete in the Pancake Day festivities.
Wagada Digital won the walking race for the fifth year in a row, and WMT Chartered Accountants claimed victory in the running race.
A record-breaking 47 teams signed up to the competition, which was also attended by Lord Lieutenant of Hertfordshire Robert Voss and deputy mayor Josie Madoc.
The total amount raised beat last year's £4,400 sum, with the CEO of Home-Start Hertfordshire "delighted".
Suzy Moody said: “The St Albans Pancake Festival had such a great vibe this year, with a huge number of teams taking part.
"The atmosphere was brilliant, fuelled by the banter from our compares and the cheering of our spectators.
"We were thrilled to have such amazing support from the community.
"It’s important for us to raise awareness of what we do, and we are delighted with the amount of money you helped us raise - more this year than in previous years – which will all go towards helping local families.
"We wouldn’t be able to put on this event without the support of our headline sponsor SA Law, our pancake banner sponsors, our fabulous event organisers led by Liz Le Coze and the goodwill of our wonderful volunteers who helped on the day.
"Thank you to Asda Hatfield for making a pancake donation too!”

SA Law's Victoria Thomson added: "The 2024 pancake festival may have been rainy one but it certainly didn’t dampen the spirits of the runners and walkers!
"Every team made a fantastic effort and the crowd were steadfast in their support. It just goes to show how Home Start Herts are such a respected part of the community - whatever the weather people came out in droves to support them.
"That’s why everyone at SA Law is particularly proud to sponsor the event once more this year as it means helping Home Start raise funds to keep delivering their much needed services.”
