Two people stabbed near Oaklands College in St Albans yesterday (October 9) were teenage boys, police have confirmed, with police patrols in the area increased "to safeguard others".

Two boys, aged 16 and 17, have been taken to hospital with "serious suspected stab wounds" following a disturbance between a group of people outside the shops on Hatfield Road at about 3.40pm, Herts police said.

Their injuries are not deemed to be life-threatening.

Officers from St Albans and armed response officers attended the scene, with support from the National Police Air Service and the ambulance service, including the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance.

"Two teenage boys were transported to hospital by road ambulance for further assessment and care," said a spokesperson for the East of England Ambulance Service.

Inspector Paul Caro, from St Albans Safer Neighbourhood team, said: "I want to reassure the public that this is being treated as an isolated incident, but police patrols are being increased in the area to safeguard others.
