St Albans: SEND protest planned for St Peter's Street

The action for the 'SEND Reform England' campaign group is due to take place in the public square on St Peter's Street, outside St Albans Museum & Gallery, from 11am until 2pm next Friday (October 13).

Other protests have been organised in Bath, Birmingham, Brighton, Kent, Leeds, Lincoln, Liverpool, Newcastle, Norwich, Oxford, Plymouth and Southampton.

SEND Reform England hope to encourage more specialist schools and school places, more funding for SEN pupils in mainstream schools, easier and quicker access to diagnostic services and support and a dedicated Minister for SEND.

The campaign group's website states that the "SEND system is broken" and that there are "no negative consequences for local decision-makers, only for young people".

The group began in May this year (2023) as a group of 10 mothers from across the country.

However, following a protest in London, a petition with 60,000 signatures was delivered to Downing Street.

The group's website continues: "The London protest was the first phase of our plans.

"We will continue campaigning until we see a complete reform to the SEND education system."
