St Albans' inaugural Dog Day has taken place, with 'man's best friend' dominating the streets of the city centre.

The event marked International Dog Day on Saturday (August 26) and featured a range of treats for humans and hounds alike.

'Puppocinos', 'pup-arazzi' selfie boards and a dog-themed market were all included.

A number of workshops also took place throughout the day, in what was deemed "a great success".

Vivien Cannon, manager at St Albans BID - which organised the event - said: “We were delighted to see so many people and their furry friends enjoying themselves in our city centre. 

"It proved to be a real social occasion for dogs and their owners, and we hit the spot promoting our huge number of dog-friendly city centre businesses.

"We have launched a brand new directory on our visitor website, www.enjoystalbans.com to showcase the hundred-plus list of businesses and attractions offering a warm welcome to dogs, which we know will be a really useful reference for visitors.”

Dog-friendly businesses in St Albans will now be identified by new window stickers, provided by St Albans BID.

City centre businesses can email info@stalbansbid.com to get their hands on them.
