A 90-year-old man has died after the car he was driving crashed into a tree killing his wife.
At around 11.30am on July 31, a white Audi A3 was travelling along Theobald Street, Radlett, in the direction of Borehamwood.
Police said for reasons unknown, the vehicle left the road and hit a tree.
The driver, a man from Radlett, was taken to hospital with serious injuries, but he passed away last night.
His 87-year-old wife, also from Radlett who was the passenger, died at the scene.
Detective Constable Felicity Moody, from the road policing unit said: “Our thoughts are with the family at this distressing time.
“Our specialist officers are providing them with support as we continue to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the collision.”
Officers are appealing for witnesses or dash cam footage to help with their enquiries.
The force can be contacted on 101 and the ISR 0283 of 31 July, 2023, can be quoted.
After the crash a road closure was put in place with emergency services attending the scene.
Herts Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters made the vehicle and scene safe before assisting the East of England Ambulance service.
At around 4.20pm Theobald Street had reopened.
